LCD TV Sales Increase
“Sales for liquid-crystal display televisions were up 74 percent in 2007, according to a recent study by Quixel Research (Portland, Oregon). The sales jump over 2006 figures helped generate $19.9 billion in revenues for the industry, with fourth quarter sales in 2007 totally $9.6 billion. The research group further predicts that the LCD television market to triple in volume by 2010.” (provided by Resource Recycling Newsletter 2008) |

Why E-Waste is Toxic
“E-waste can contain a variety of heavy metals including lead, chromium, cadmium, mercury, beryllium, nickel, zinc and brominated flame retardants. Contained in the electronics, the metals are probably harmless, but if they leak into the ground, they can poison groundwater. Cathode Ray Tubes, or CRTs, the glass video displays in computer monitors and TVs, can contain at least four pounds of lead.” (provided by The Coloradoan 2/4/2008) |
